Week 38!

Here I sit, waiting for the rest of my fam to wake up. I have been up since about 4:10 due to excitement of the most perfect weather and first day of fall. If you don’t know, I LOVE fall (just like any other human…I just love it a little more).

I have been fighting a cold since last Saturday and finally feel like 80 % today so I went to the gym and did a nice and slow workout. Then I treated myself with a decaf mocha from Caribou because why not! It’s been a blast of a day already.

Here we are people…week 38. I technically have a week and 3 days til I’m due but my gut tells me I’m gonna be in labor this time next week so I’m going with one tiny week left of this pregnancy. You know what? I don’t mind being pregnant. The only thing that annoys me is how many people stare at my belly….like yahhhh I know it’s got a large bump growing on it. Thanks.

First, lets do a recap of our last baby shower last weekend. My sister and mom hosted at my parents house and when I arrived the house was decorated so cutely (is that even a word). All the blue decorations with those cute southwest arrows…my sister even made a selfie wall. How clever.

There was a taco bar and margaritas (I had a virgin one…yum!) and cornbread shaped like cactus. My mom made the most fantastic cupcakes.

We played 3 games:

  1. The baby sock matching game-match as many baby socks as you can in a minute.
  2. Baby word scramble…abby=baby
  3. Baby song game…guess the title and artist of the song with the word “baby.” Think Mariah Carey-Always Be My Baby

It was a blast of an afternoon and I am so thankful for all the friends and family that have helped Sam and I prepare for the little guy.

So this week has been V low key. I got a cold Saturday and haven’t been able to breathe right since…also like so much snot in my nose/throat. I have been snoring like a cow according to Sam so I haven’t been sleeping that great. But that’s OK, I really don’t like sleeping all that much…JK!

This week I’ve had a bit more of an appetite which makes me so happy. I made homemade chicken soup on Monday (I stayed home from work to rest) and have been eating that all week. The best. I’ve also been craving salad with Catalina dressing, pizza, hamburgers (again!), lasagna, mac n cheese, and cottage cheese. LOL. My goal for today is to make Grandpa Marion’s chili and maybe some cornbread, an apple crisp, and tuna salad.

I still weigh 153ish and my body still feels pretty good. I’m trying to remain calm and just let things happen and not stress out…because stress makes everything worse. This baby will come when he is ready!

At my Dr. Appt yesterday they said my cervix (sorry if you’re a man reading this) is about 50% thin, I am about 1/2 a cm dialated, and the doc touched the baby’s head!!!!! I thought that was so crazy and cool I told her that…I mean c’mon! There’s a HUMAN IN MY BODY. I still don’t understand how that’s possible.

As for workouts this week…I think I did 4? I did get at least 10k steps every day and we did a lovely 6 mile hike on Sunday. I’d rather be spending my time in nature or snuggling my dog and Sam right now.

Today I am getting a massage thanks to my lovely friends and cannot freaking wait. Hopefully I don’t get so relaxed that the baby just slips out…that’d be shocking hehe. The rest of the day I hope to finish cleaning (yeah, I bought Mrs Myers pumpkin cleaning spray and want to spray every surface of my house with it), cooking, and chilling in the nursery…NESTING. Except I don’t live in a nest.

My dad and I are going to the Apple Orchard tomorrow and I CAN’T wait!!!! They have the best apple donuts and I’m for sure going to eat 2.

Goooooood Morning! I think I’ve been up on and off since like 1:30 am. Just couldn’t sleep ya know. Looks like today might be a good day for a little nap.

Another week of being preggo has come and gone and I’m still feeling pretty good…for the most part. I am starting to slow down a bit and feel more tired. My back has been real sore (I asked Sam for a massage but haven’t received that yet) and my pelvis feels like it’s splitting apart…maybe it is? I guess in 4ish weeks I’ll be pushing a tiny human through there so it’s probably getting ready for that. Fun!

35 week bump

Last Saturday we attended our birthing class and it rocked. I seriously loved it and learned so much. Highly recommend a birthing class for any pregnant mom out there. I mean I feel like I knew a few things but I def didn’t know 1) you can go in the bathtub at the hospital while you’re waiting to push the baby out. 2) You can bring snacks! 3) I’m probably going to make some weird noises and that freaks me out but I’ll probably so in the moment I won’t care. 4) Sam might not make it through watching the actual birth (LOL he got so squeamish during the video clips of birth).

They also fed us Olive Garden which tasted amazing. Sam said we’ll probs only need to take that class once but I loved it so much I’d do it again.

Moving on. I think my belly has grown a lot more. My shirts are like belly shirts now but I don’t want to buy any more new clothes since I have 4 weeks to go. I did buy some postpartum leggings I’m very excited about….oh and some super cute postpartum undies that go all the way up to my belly button. Birth control? Probably.

This week I weighed in around 150. My appetite in the morning is literally gone except for chocolate milk and fruit. I’ve been having an apple and then eating a Clif bar around 11 and that’s all I can manage which sucks. However, my appetite seems to wake up around 2 pm and all I want is malts, brownies, cake, and pizza. COOOOOL.

My amazing mom came last weekend and brought her instant pot and made us some delicious Barbacoa shredded beef. It was better than Chipotle and I ate it every night for dinner. She also made this loaded mac n cheese with mushrooms and roasted red peppers. HOLY MOLY. Sam and I ate like royalty last week. Also, I need an instant pot. Now.

Homemade Chipotle

This week I started getting ready to pack my hospital bag (just in case!) and ordered some fun things (thanks cousin Amber!) for after having baby boy. My cousin has been a gem and gave me a ton of good suggestions on things to have on hand like witch hazel pads, gripe water for baby gas, pee training pads for the bed (in case of leakage), epsom salts, and feminine wipes. Yay! I’m still unsure what outfits to pack for baby boy but I know they say to pack a newborn outfit and a 0-3 month outfit in case the kid is hugeeeeee.

As far as workouts go this week, I’m still trying to get to the gym a few times a week and do some at home workouts. I got in a 2 mile run and some interval running/walking on the tread at the gym. However, running right now makes me have to take the biggest poops and it gets real uncomfortable so I’m only doing a little bit.

I’ve been real into strict presses, lunges, and thrusters. A fun at home workout I came up with early this week looked something like this:

15 minute AMRAP

50 Backward stepping lunges

40 Bent Over Rows

30 Push Press

20 Single Leg Deadlifts (10 per leg)

*Finish with as many Strict Press as possible*

SO fun! I make sure to take plenty of breaks for water and don’t let my heart rate get highter than 130/140.

Really hoping these workouts help with the birthing process.

Lastly, I stopped at the farmers market Thursday and bought the most beautiful flowers. I used to hate flowers but now I love them. They make me so happy. I also got some fresh green beans since nothing in my garden is ready to harvest yet.

Okay, that’s all for this week. Really excited for a nice long weekend. Sam and I have a lot of housework to do but we might toss that aside and hit up the MN State Fair. I need some mini donuts and cheese curds.

Third Tri Road Trip

I’m sitting on the front stoop as I reminisce (I can never spell that word) about last weekend’s road trip. You see, as a child, my family and I would travel to South Dakota every Labor Day weekend to see the Badlands, Mouth Rushmore, and the bison. Back in March, my sister and I planned to do this same trip and we picked August because I probs won’t want to do much besides eat ice cream and sit on the couch next month. My lovely parents came with too so we packed the 4 of us into their Suburban and made the 9+ trip out west last Thursday morning.

First off, I love road trips. My mom got us all Yeti’s for the trip and they rock. My dad controlled the music and we really enjoyed the Roadtrip channel on Sirius XM. Perkins was our first stop of course where we shared a cinnamon roll as a starter. I went with the banana blueberry pancakes and ate every last bit.

After breakfast we hit the road again and made stops about every 2 hours because my bladder couldn’t handle much more than that. We arrived in South Dakota around 3PM Thursday and checked into our first cabin right in the Badlands (PS I never knew the Badlands were a National Park!). Let me tell you, the Bandlands always take my breath away even though I’ve seen them many times. After checking in, we unpacked, relaxed on the porch, then hit up the lodge for a yummy dinner of bison burger. Yes, I think it’s weird that my favorite animal also happens to be my favorite food. Oh well.

Everyone was pretty tired so we hit the hay nice and early. My sister and I woke up before sunrise to take a gorgi sunrise run to a really nice overlook. How romantical. Then we did a nice 40 minute hike through the Badlands before heading back to the lodge for breakfast and coffee. I love breakfast. I love road trips. I love bison.

After packing up our cabin, we made our next stop at Wall Drug. Yes, Wall Drug is an odd place but I feel like you have to make the stop if you are in the area. It’s a good place to buy crappy souvenirs except I did find a bison crossing sign for Baby Wakey’s nursery! PUMPED.

We left Wall Drug with and ice cream cone and all was well in the world. Our next stop was one of the best places ever. The Mount Rushmore KOA. It seriously is so nice there. There’s heated swimming pools, Basketball Courts, restaurants, ice cream, a pancake breakfast….sounds like a bowl full of fun if you ask me. It’s also about a 10 minute drive up to Mount Rushmore from the KOA. I just love it there.

After a delicious dinner of beef short ribs, we made our way up to Mount Rushmore to check on the President’s. Yeah, it’s still pretty cool to see those faces carved in the rock. Another must stop if you’re ever in the area.

That night we played 5 Crowns then fell fast asleep in our little camper cabin (NO AC but we survived!). Moll and I again woke up and took a nice little run around the KOA before heading to the all you can eat pancake breakfast. All of us could only fit our 3 pancakes and didn’t get to go back for seconds. BOO. But those pancakes…yum. So fluffy.

The rest of the afternoon was spent driving the Needles highway and through Custer State Park. This is where the Bison live! I was getting a little sad because we were almost to the end of the park when we turned a corner and holy shit there were probably at least 100 bison roaming the land. It was insane. They were blocking the streets, in the water…one even rubbed the side of the car. LIFE MADE.

That night we were staying at one of the coolest places ever…Sylvan Lake. Our cabin was right on the edge of a cliff and overlooking the mountains (I call them mountains…I guess they’re hills). It seriously is unreal the location of this place. The resort has a lake where you can rent kayaks (apparently we missed the cutoff for that though), and a fantastic restaurant. For dinner, we ate on the restaurant’s patio and it was glorious. Everyone had adult beverages but since I’m carrying a child, I ordered a chocolate milk. Best decision ever. It was like homemade chocolate milk. Topped with mass amounts of whipped cream. And a cherry. I could cry thinking about the beauty of that milk. I also must LOL at the fact that the children next to us who ordered chocolate milk did not get their’s in a fancy glass with whipped cream and a cherry…perks of being prego.

Dinner was amazing. Our appetizer of mango curry shirmps was devine. My bison stroganoff was one of the best things I’ve ever had. And to top it off, the apple pie was so good. Ugh, great last night!

After sitting by the fire for a while, I went to bed nice and early because I’m sleeping for 2. Sunday morning we woke up and were on the road by 6 AM to head back home. Oh, and we stopped at McDonalds for breakfast. I had an Egg McMuffin. I haven’t had an egg McMuff in years and it was just the icing on the cake to a fun trip.

It was a blast and I’m so glad my future son was along for the trip. Thanks mom and dad for the food, fun, and matching hats!

Week 31

HOLY MOLY. 8 weeks to go…this is INSANE. I feel like there is still so much to do to get ready for this little guy (maybe get some more diapers? LOL) but Sam and I are getting more and more excited each day.

I had my 31 week Dr. Appt Friday and everything seems great. She did tell me to find a Pediatrician which I hadn’t even thought about yet. So my task this week is to find a few nearby and do some research. I’m not super picky, I just want my baby to be in good hands. The baby’s heartbeat was solid (YAY!) and he’s been moving like a dancing machine. They did freak me out a little with all this pre-term labor talk, but I’m pretty sure I’ll know what it feels like when I start going into labor right?

31 weeks of bumps

This week was pretty swell. I actually felt better than the previous week. I do feel like one day my appetite is very small and the next day I’m ravenous for any and everything. Cravings this week have ranged from melon and egg breakfast sandwiches to pizza to chocolate cake. YUM. I am trying to eat as healthfully (is that a word?) as possible but I did manage to fit in a Butterfinger Blizzard, slice of cheesecake, hamburger, and pizza with sauerkraut this week. All good things happen in moderation people!

As far a workouts go, they were actually pretty fun this week. I got in a couple nice runs  (getting harder as the days go by but hoping to run for a couple more weeks) and some good walks with lil Ruthie. I did 3 workouts at Anytime which involved some wall balls, swings, step-ups, rows, 400m runs, and a few other things to keep it interesting. The 4:30 am ladies refer to me as the “Anytime Fitness Baby” which gives me a good chuckle.

So this week, I had a mini breakdown to Sam (I’M SORRY!). I was stressing about all the things we still need to do such as paint the nursery, put up the wall decals, decorate, find daycare, wash the sheets, clean the bathroom, vacuum the house, blah, blah, blah. I made a list and sent it to him. He’s the best and did most of the house chores before I got home from work Thursday. Then he helped me put up the wall decals.

It was SO easy. Sometimes I just stress myself out when really, there’s nothing to be stressed out about. Back to the decals. You literally tape them on the wall, remove the backing, and rub them on with this little scrapey tool. I think Sam and I really bonded over this project 🙂

If you didn’t know, I have had an obsession with Bison and the southwest stuff since I was a wee one. I blame my parents for taking us to South Dakota every Labor Day and driving us past the roaming herds. So when we started thinking about baby rooms, I instantly knew it had to be bison/southwest theme (Sam wanted MN wild but I said no…sorry sir). It just so happens that right now everyone must be obsessed with this theme because there are bison and cacti in every store. Trendsetter. Anywho, my sister came this weekend to help me paint and decorate. My design sense sucksssssss so I am very grateful for some help as I wanted this room to be extra special.

Molly and I spent Friday night painting the wall behind the crib a nice dark green (my other options were turquoise, or a bright green which after looking at, were just too much. Plus I like dark colors). Saturday morning we did some touch-ups and called it a life on the painting. PS painting is fun too but beware, your hand might start cramping. Also, shout out to Pittsburgh Paint for going on so smooth and looking luxurious.

The rest of Saturday was spent shopping, getting decor, and organizing the room (yeah, I was exhausted by the evening). I really wanted one of those cube organizers from Target instead of a book shelf because I thought we could do more with it (like store books & toys…genius). At our first Target stop we found what we thought to be the perfect cube organizer when really it was basically made for ants. It was so tiny (made for holding shoes) so my sister returned it and got the one of my dreams.

I am so in love with this room. I hope baby boy likes it as much as his mom. All that’s needed now is a great bison photo for the wall and I think we’ll call it good. Perfect timing actually because my parents, sister and I are taking a trip to yes…South Dakota next week. I’ll be on  the lookout for all things bison.

The Babymoon

Another week has flown by, little dude is growing by the day, and I’m starting to slow down in almost every daily task. I still feel pretty darn good considering we have less than 10 weeks to go!

This last week I haven’t had much of an appetite but when I do, it’s a force. I’ve been craving pizza (hello Margharita from Punch Pizza), ice cream, and milk shakes. Also BBQ chips…weird because I’ve never loved that flavor.

Workouts this week have been pretty good. A good mix of full body stuff, weights, and some cardio…Although running is getting a little difficult… might give that a rest soon.

Now for the main topic of this post…Baby moon! Sam surprised me with a little getaway to a town called Bayfield, WI last week. We had the most lovely time and the weather was just perfect.

I kept a journal (per Sam’s request) and am thinking maybe one day I’ll publish a travel journal…LOL.

We left our house at 10AM Sunday morning and made a few pit stops along the way. It took us about 4 hours to get there but it was worth the drive. Bayfield is on Lake Superior and just plain gorgeous. Our motel was right on the water and the front desk lady was just the cutest.

We kept a pretty low key itinerary for the most part. We did a lot of walking around then sitting on patios with beverages (beer for Sam, H2O or lemonade for me).

We ate a ton of good food, especially our breakfast Monday morning. We hit up a little joint called The Fat Radish. I had the most amazing pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes and a lavender latte. OMG. I could eat that daily.

It was good to have all that fuel because right after breakfast we hopped on the Fairy to Madeline Island. The ride over was beautiful. We sat on the top deck and got some pretty amazing views of the lake.

Once we got on the island, we rented our selves some bicycles (Sam was voting for mopeds but I was not into that), and headed off on a 15 mile round trip to Big Bay State Park. We did a little Lakeshore hike there and scoped out the campground. I really wanted to rent kayaks but was too afraid I wouldn’t pass the safety test on account of my belly is the size of a basketball.

After the bike ride we stopped at The Beach Club for a snack and a drink. We then took a nice walk to the Marina and stopped at a little Pub where the waitress specially made me a fresh strawberry and soda water. She was a doll. Everyone on the Island was so friendly and I’ve never gotten so many congratulations on my belly.

The waitress told Sam he could take his margarita in a to-go cup because apparently you can walk around like Vegas on Madeline Island. So fun!

We hopped back on the Fairy around 3PM then hit up a rooftop for some more hydration.

Since it was our last night, we decided to do dinner then dessert. We had dinner at the MannyPenny Bistro (Great chicken fajitas), followed by an insane dessert at the Pier Plaza (I think this was the name). I went with the monster carrot cake because duh and because I’m feeding a growing boy. Sam chose the chocolate lava cake. We were both very satisfied with our choices and it was the perfect ending to a super fantastic Baby moon.

This week I’m hoping to paint the nursery and get up the cacti decals! Other than that, I’m just cooking. and cleaning, and hanging by the pool with my mom.

Week 29

Goooood Morning. This morning I woke up at 5:20 and was feeling pretty good so I ran to the gym and did a fast lil 20 minute workout. It was actually pretty busy…there were 3 other people there! After the run back home I was pretty ravenous so I made a large bowl of oatmeal and topped it with some pumpkin and frozen blueberries. YUM.

Speaking of blueberries, last weekend Sam and I picked some. There was this cute little blueberry farm (patch?) in Stillwater, MN and the bluebs were loaded. It was very warm while picking but I knew we were getting ice cream after so the heat was totes fine.

Sam and I picked about 2 pounds of berries from just 2 bushes! They were loaded and so tasty. I froze a bunch and made some pumpkin-oatmeal-blueberry pancakes for the week. Yes, I’ll admit, I ate 12 pancakes last week.

After the picking we hit up Nelson’s in Stillwater. You better come with an appetite or extra cup or something when you visit here because the serving sizes are insane. I got a kiddie size and Sam got a small. Neither of us finished our cream in one sitting. I chose Monster Cookie and Raspberry Truffle (FAVE), and Sam went with Cotton Candy.

Sam also took the doors off his Jeep last weekend so we cruised around in that for a while. I told him I felt so cool riding doorless. It was also super odd getting out and not having a door to slam shut. Ruthie loved the no door thing too. No, we did not let her ride in it that way but anytime we went outside she’d just hop right in and chill in the driver seat.

The Green Machine

So, I had another Dr. appt yesterday and everything is going swell. These checkups take about 15 minutes and they just make sure everything is normal. I still feel pretty darn good except I found out it’s getting harder to tie my shoes now. I also got a ton of sleep last week which was a real treat but I feel like I get tired way faster now-a-days. Good excuse to catch up on Very Cavillari.

Cravings are STILL salty. This week it was chips…I’m not usually a huge chip girl so this was kind of fun. And salads. I’ve really wanted salads. My appetite has decreased a little which is kind of annoying because I love food but I’m sure it will come back soon.

Sam made the most amazing dinner this week. He called it tacos on a stick…I call it kebabs. They had steak, pepper, avocado, tortilla strips, and corn on the cob. He even marinated the steak. THEY ROCKED. It was probs one of my favorite things he’s ever made.

Being active this week seemed to be a little bit of a struggle but I’m kind of in the “I don’t care as long as I go for a walk every day” mind set right now. I made it to the gym 3 times and did a fun at home workout. I also did another 7 mile hike/run at the State Park Sunday but found myself hiking more than running this time. That was 100% A-OK with me. I think part of it was I had a side ache because I had to poo but didn’t want to jump into the woods on account of the mosquitoes were horrid.

My mom and I also went for a nice 3 mile hike yesterday with the dog. It was a little humid so I got kind of tired by the end. So did Ruth.

All Naturale

That’s about all that’s new for last week. I did order another Stitch Fix so I’m hoping there’s a lot of fun items in there.

Today, one of my best gal pals is getting married so I’m planning on taking a nap later so I can celebrate past 8 PM. SO EXCITED! Then Sam and I are hitting the road tomorrow to celebrate our “baby-moon” near the Apostle Islands. Also can’t wait.

Third Trimester

Holy shamoley week 28 is almost complete and we’re officially in the third trimester! Little dude is moving around like crazy (especially at night) and we’re getting so close to meeting him…by close I mean like 11 weeks…but that feels close. I’m currently weighing in around 146 pounds (up 16 ish from my pre baby weight) and baby is 2 lbs 13 oz. He’s now in the 70th percentile for size instead of the 90th. Maybe he won’t make it to the NBA? That’s OK, after watching Wimbledon this week I’m hoping he takes to tennis.

My belly button 

I had my glucose test on Monday and it came back negative for gestational diabetes (hallelujah). That drink they feed you is not great but sometimes you gotta suck it up and be a woman. Sam came with me and sat in while I got my blood taken because I wasn’t sure how much they’d take/if I’d pass out/throw up. None of that happened and it actually went pretty smooth.

I did discover I’m a- blood type so I had to get a shot for that. I also had to get a shot for whooping cough/hepatitis which will help protect baby wakey until he gets his shots. HOLY EFF my arm was sore. It felt like The Rock punched me a couple times.

Sam also sat in on my ultrasound and got to see the little guy wiggling around. My doctor also took some 4D pictures and they are INSANE. You can literally see the babies face and it got us so excited…however Sam still thinks he looks like a little alien. I say he looks like a cute little bundle of love.

Our Boy!

As far as this week has gone, things seem pretty alright. Again my hip/calf cramps are still hanging out and I keep waking up at like 11:30 pm and can’t fall back asleep. Also my neighbor is like screwdriving something together right now (it’s 7:45 am) and it’s V annoying but whatever.

I’d say my back has started getting a little more sore and I can’t see my feet. Sam made me test this out by standing up and looking down. Def couldn’t see my little toesies until I showed him if I widened my stance I could for sure see them. He gave me an eye roll and walked away. Amusing I’d say.

Bending over to pick things up is getting just a titch difficult so soon I’m going to need like an extendable arm or Sam to just follow me around everywhere. Oh and my brain seems a bit loopy lately. I seem to be a little more forgetful. Yesterday I went to get a malt for lunch and ended up ordering a shake because I forgot I wanted a malt. Man oh man I tell ya.

Cravings this week have been salty and sweet. Like give me all the potato chips and Malts (or shakes). My family and I went to a MN Saints baseball game last weekend and my sister and I got chocolate malts and that’s exactly what started this downward spiral. I didn’t even get a hot dog because I was so into the malt I forgot (again, foggy brain).

Side note, the game was a blast. I’d probably go to a Saints game over a Twins game because they are smaller and felt more intimate. They also had a ton of kids activities which will be great for the future baby wakey. Oh, and not a bad seat in the place.

Okay, back to cravings. Like I said, salty and sweet. I made a rhubarb crisp on Monday and since Sam still can’t eat solid food due to his wisdom teeth extraction, I’ve already consumed 3/4 of the 9×13 pan. YOLO.

I told myself to just enjoy these next 11 weeks and eat whatever I crave because soon, I’ll have to start being more mindful of what I put in my mouth. I also had a hamburger every day last week because my parents grilled about 25 pieces of meat last Saturday for 5 of us and my mom sent me home with a huge plate of leftovers. Again, blaming Sam for this one since he couldn’t help me eat any of it. I took it upon myself to finish off all the burgers 🙂 No waste here!

Friday for lunch I decided to indulge in a healthy meal of chocolate shake (which should have been a malt…see above) and a basket of sweet potato fries. This was the best combination ever and made me very happy.

Extra whip plz

Being active last week was pretty alright. I got in a couple runs (did 3.5 miles this am!), some nice walks, an Alchemy class with my best gal pals, and a few great workouts at the gym. I did this little diddy yesterday and really enjoyed it:

4 rounds for time:

Run 400 m

20 wall balls (12 pounds)

20 Swings (25 pound KB)

Then I did some barbell work and called it a morning. Fun times at Anytime Fitness.

Ruthie has been extra tired lately due to the heat so I’ve enjoyed some snuggly moments with her. The other day I was relaxing on the couch and she hopped into my lap (mind you she’s a 50 pound Pitbull) and put her little paw right on my belly shelf. I melted. Ugh she’s such a doll.

Now what’s on tap for this lovely Saturday? Sam and I are going to go blueberry picking in a little bit and then hit up the most amazing ice cream shop Nelson’s! I am so excited I could tinkle. They have the best flavors and the kid size is literally a cup that has probs 6 scoops of ice cream in it. OMG I’m so excited. Third stop on our tour of ice cream. I will probably get Monster cookie and birthday cake. Or maybe the raspberry chocolate truffle flavor.

Sam and I also are hoping to get our wall decals up in the baby’s room so we can figure out what color paint to get. I’m leaning towards a nice teal color. Sam also started building a chain link fence for Ruth (lucky girl) yesterday so he’ll probs work on that later while I mow the lawn sit in the sun and finish my book (HIGHLY recommend Into the Water).

Week 27

I wanna be a cool mom. So I’m currently sitting on our cement slab listening to the New Music Friday Playlist on Spotify and drinking water from a bubba keg. Cool Hale, real cool.

Today is about half way through week 27 and things are going pretty swell. Besides the fat my feet feel swollen and I can feel my hips getting wider (which has been keeping me up at night). I also haven’t gone #2 for like 2 days which kind of worries me because I really don’t want hemorrhoids…but I hear most people get them so maybe I shouldn’t be worried? Also, who knew there were 2 h’s in hemorrhoids? Learn something new every day.

Sam got his wisdom teeth out today and was a real trooper and didn’t get put under because we are having a kid and kids are expensive. Poor guy can’t talk and keeps drooling…I guess he’s like a little baby right now. Don’t worry, he’s all stocked with soup, applesauce, ice cream, and liquid snacks.

So back to week 27. My mom had her party and it was a blast and a half. The whole fam was in town and my brother treated the gals to pedicures. I stepped outside my comfort zone and went with a lovely green color. The lady who did my toes was very curious about how I can still run while being pregnant. IDK ma’am, you just go slower and take walk breaks and stuff. Pretty sure she thought my feet were gross. But she was very kind and told me to come back for the pregnancy pedi.

My mom also had Costco cake at the gathering and sent me home with a bundle…I’ve been trying to limit myself to a slice a day…or two.

This week we also started getting stuff ready in the baby’s room. I ordered some super cute cactus wall decals and can’t wait to get them up. FYI I wanted cactus and southwest (BISON) theme before it became so popular…trendsetter. Also, I’m very torn on what color to paint the room…I was thinking a nice teal color but now I’m leaning toward a greenish color. Thoughts?

I really haven’t had many cravings this week except for like cheese and salads. BORING. I want to crave something cool! My mom did have the best burgers at her party so I’ve continued my burger obsession and had one over the weekend. A chedda bacon burger. They are from the local grocery store and seriously the best.

Sam and I also started a summer ice cream tour bucket list. So far we’ve been to Grandpa’s in Fridley (I’d say it was about a 6 out of 10) and last night we stopped at the Big Dipper in North Oaks (I’d say it was a 9.5 out of 10). I liked the Big Dipper better because it was cheaper and they had more flavors to pick from. I went with blueberry cheesecake and chocolate oreo. Sam selected Snickers and something else I can’t remember because pregnancy brain. Ruthie got banana. She ate hers faster than I did. Lucky girl.

Funny thing though…it was very warm out and we had about a 10 min drive to get home with our ice cream. The ice cream started melting so I put it between my feet to keep it out of the direct sun. Sam turned a corner and the ice cream tipped and went all over my floor mat and pink sandal. I was of course very emotional about this and told him he needed to give me proper warning when sliding around corners. LOL.

I also started a new book this week thanks to a recommendation from my sista and am already loving it. I just love reading so much lately. Especially when you can sit outside with an ice cold lemonade and get carried away to an imaginary world. #nerdsunite

As far as working out goes…I’ve had little to no motivation this week. I did make it to the gym twice so I’ll chalk that up as a win. This morning I did a fun little diddy:

4 Rounds: 3 min on, 1 min box step ups (cuz pregnant ladies shouldn’t do box jumps!):

6 dumbbell thrusters

8 push ups on a box

10 alternating muscle snatch

12 air squats

It was actually pretty enjoyable and went by super fast.

Tuesday AM I did another fun trail run/hike at the State Park. I forget how hilly it is but I enjoy the hills right now because those are my walking breaks!

I tried to go for a run Thursday am and at mile 2.5 my feet arches and calves started cramping so I said eff this and walked it in.

I did an abundance of swimming this week and that is my most fave thing to do right now. My sister and I spent a good 30 minutes playing this game where you both go under water. One person screams something and the other person has to decipher what the heck they are saying. One time she said “Jalapeno Cream Cheese” and all I heard was “I like pinot cheese.” LOLz. I was pretty exhausted after that game.

Now it’s the weekend already so I’m sure there will be some hiking, swimming, and eating…lots of eating.



The 25th Week

Annnnnnnd we’re growing! Every time I look in the mirror I swear the bump is growing. I also feel like it’s not very circular…more like a square or rectangle? I guess that’s okay though because my belly is now the perfect size for a little table. I can set my water glass there, my phone, my computer, Ruthie’s head…the options are endless.

Speaking of Ruth, she’s been a doll lately. I think she knows soon she’s going to have to share my love so she’s being extra sweet and is basically attached to my hip. Anytime I sit down on the couch she hops up next to me and puts a little paw (or as I call them hands) on my tummy. As soon as I hop into bed, she’s right there with me being the little spoon…I don’t even mind. She’s such a snuggler and it makes me so happy.

So week 25 is here which means we could have 15 weeks left before little wakey joins the world. Cool. I think he’s like 2 pounds right now or something which doesn’t seem like a lot. He’s kicking like a forward in the world cup AKA constantly but it’s pretty neat.

This week I finally signed Sam and I up for a breastfeeding class. I am so jazzed because honestly, I have no clue wtf I’m doing. I asked Sam if he thinks I’ll get to practice with a doll like in CPR class…he shook his head and walked away.

This week I also ate out 4 times for dinner…maybe 5 if I go out tonight. Better enjoy it I tell myself because soon I’ll be so busy there will be no time to eat a full meal…LOL.

Monday I went to Brasa with my gal pals and got the pork and over easy egg bowl and ate it all. Normally I have to get a box for this meal but clearly baby was extra hungry 🙂

Tuesday we went to Sam’s grandparents house for dinner. They grilled brats and it was lovely!

Wednesday we met my parents at a fun little place called LOLO in Stillwater, MN. None of us had ever been so it was a joy to try something new. Let me tell you, if you’re looking for a place with a fun selection of non-alcoholic drinks, go here. I chose the Tony Basil and enjoyed every sip of it. I was super fun to have some options besides water or lemonade. I almost got the root beer but was feeling spicy.

So many choices!

For a starter we went with the olives and their special…a bacon jam toast. Both were delicious and there were zero leftovers of either.


For the main course I obvi went with a cheese burger and fries. AND it was awesome. The fries were garlic and rosemary and I ate every last one. I think I blacked out because I started eating them and then looked down and they were all gone. My bad. I’ll def go back for more drinks and fries.

And I guess I only ate out 3 times for dinner…pregnancy brain at it’s best.

Wednesday night I had some strange dreams. I blame Tony Basil. My first dream was that my whole family was at a cabin. My mom and sister said they were going outside and then they disappeared for like 90 minutes. Turns out they went snowshoeing without me and I was not happy.

My second dream had to do with my most favorite animal…Bison. I was in a talent show and did like a puppet show with all my stuffed Bison from childhood. I remember being so nervous and then I woke up. LOL. I guess I’ll never know how I performed.

Cravings this week have been pretty low key. I feel like I am finally craving sweets non stop. I want donuts, bagels, brownies, ice cream, french toast, and chocolate…I don’t usually eat straight chocolate bars and this week I did. I also want spaghetti and pizza, salt and vinegar chips, and fruit…mainly peaches.

I also have zero desire to cook anything right now. If I didn’t have a gestational diabetes test coming up in a couple weeks I might just continue this eating out trend (holla TBELL).

As far as workouts go this week, I made it to the gym three times and did 2 at home workouts. My left calf keeps cramping and my hips feel like they are separating so I tried taking it easier but it’s hard (word to your mother…don’t do bench step ups in flip flops).

I tried incorporating shorter run intervals into workouts this week like 400m intervals or an easy 800m warm up/cool down jog. Running still feels good so I’m going to keep doing it. I also did incline bench and chest flies this week and that was a fun change up.

I’m hoping to get in a trail run/hike this weekend and some swimming at my parents house too. That sounds like a nice time. Maybe I’ll toss in a virgin margarita? Sounds exciting.

Oh! I also got my maternity leave set up so things are starting to feel real! I can’t believe Sam and I are going to be parents in a few short months. BAH! He also planned our baby moon which will be taking place in a month. Can’t wait for a couple relaxing days away!

Time to go eat a brownie and do some more weeding in my garden (Hey! I have 2 tomato buds! Yippee).

Week 24

Well hello. Normally I like to write these posts on Friday’s on account of I get home early but I went out of town last weekend and just ran out of time. So here we are, Monday evening. I’m almost at week 25 (HOLY MOLY how did that happen!?) but lets just recap week 24 anyway cuz it’s fun.

First off, I feel like my belly is growing every day. I’ve officially gained 15 pounds and feel pretty good. I have been getting some cramps still in my hips/calfs during sleeping time which keeps me up some nights but if that’s the worst of it, I’m ok with that.

He’s growing!

I had a strange craving this week. It happened to be pancakes with french fries dunked in maple syrup. Strange or it could be the most amazing combo ever. Sadly, I did not get to indulge in this one…yet. I’ve also been craving mashed potatoes sauced with ketchup (or basically ketchup on everything), Culvers, salad of Cesar,  hamburgers (always), and CANDY. I guess you could say there’s a variety. Oh and always apples. Red apples.

ALSO, big news…Baby had his first Quarter Pounder with cheese. I mean, have you seen the commercials for this lately? That’s what started this whole craving in the first place…kudos to you McDonald’s marketers. My first QP was (in Fergie voice) “tasty, tasty.” The fries however were mediocre at best…forever a Wendy’s or Culvers fry girl.

During week 24 I also whipped out the crock pot and made some delicious shredded chicken. You literally take 2 pounds of chicken boobs and put them in the crock with seasonings and a cup of chicken broth. Sam is weird and added cream of chicken but whatever, it worked. Then you just let that cook on low for 6-8 hours and shred it up. I used my chicken as homemade chicken burrito bowls and it was mighty tasty.

Homemade Chipotle

During week 24 workouts seemed super fun and I seem to be gaining some motivation again. I did a nice 7 mile run/hike at the state park and some super fun outdoor workouts including things like lunges, elevated push ups, hang power cleans, bent over rows and bench step ups. I also did a few workouts at the gym including low weighted wall balls, box step ups, push press, swing snatch and more.

There’s a turkey out there

I’ve been checking out Paleomg.com lately because she posts some fun workouts that are easy to do at home or modify if needed. I’ve also been making sure to take plenty of water breaks to catch my breath.

Baby also got to take his first road trip to Duluth during week 24 and experience mom’s driving for an extended period of time. There was some bad traffic and we almost got hit by a tire that flew off a boat trailer in front of us but other than that we sang a lot of songs and drank a lot of water. It was pretty boring. Duluth was a blast though! It was Grandma’s weekend and my sister’s boyfriend and friend were running the half.

Molly and I were the support crew and it basically felt like we ran also. The race started at the butt crack of dawn (6:15 am) so we were up and at em with the birds. Our goal was to see the runners as many times as possible and we saw them 5 times so I’d say that’s pretty good. One time we had to sprint 2 blocks to make it to them and I was so out of breath it was sad. But that’s OK because I’m running for 2.

I’ve never actually got to watch Grandma’s because I’m normally participating in it but this year was so fun. I actually really enjoyed being the support team and had no desire to be doing the run (I was afraid I’d get super jealous of every runner and end up super sad I couldn’t run-not the case). It was also incredible to see the elite runner zoom by. They are literally sprinting and it’s such a sight. Ok, enough about running.

Please excuse my scatter brain right now. There’s a lot going on. Sam’s cooking a pizza, Ruthie’s got zoomies, and I just really want some graham crackers with frosting.
