Be Thankful

It’s snowing and it’s magical and all I want to do is decorate, drink coffee, and write down goals for the next 3 years of my life ūüôā

I hear today is like the biggest party day of the year since not many people have to work tomorrow (if you do, I’m sorry, that’s shitty…unless you like it, then it’s great!). I will be enjoying a grasshopper for sure tonight with my fam. Can’t wait for some minty goodness.

Since Sam has been on break from school this week, I’ve been able to get to a few classes at Alchemy and it’s been so nice. My bod is def slowly getting strong again and it feels so good to move. However, having a baby takes away any core strength I once had. I’m focusing on slowing down and building up those muscles one ab at a time.

This morning I did a super fun workout at Anytime to get in a good sweat before Turkey Day. I did a bunch of different squats mixed with some rowing and then finished off with the following:

5 sets of 5 reps: Power Cleans

Then…3 rounds as fast as possible of:

10 Box Jumps

9 Hang Power Cleans

7 Front Squats

5 Strict Press

I did this all with a 45 pound bar. I finished with 10 minutes of walking at an incline. So great. I got home an instantly downed 2 protein muffins complete with whipped cream and peanut butter and 2 eggs with avocado.

So, what else have we been up to lately? Harry is the wiggliest little monster ever so I’ve been trying to find ways to entertain him. I’ve also discovered that every day he looks more and more like his dad. He’s a mini Sam and I’m 100% ok with that because I think Sam is pretty cute ūüôā

I’ve also been trying to taste all the lavender lattes in MN and got one from¬†Spyhouse¬†yesterday and while it was $6, I’d get it again and again. So good, so lavender-y. I mean my homemade version wasn’t terrible compared to this one but I think I need to pull the trigger and get that espresso machine…especially if I’m going back to work in a month. Yikes.

I like you a whole latte

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I can’t effing believe it. My fave day of the year is already here and there’s SO much to be thankful for. I love going around the table and having everyone say one thing they are thankful for this year. Here are a few on my list:

  1. Healthy family
  2. Harry, Ruthie, and Sam
  3. A roof over our head
  4. The best friends who are always up for adventure
  5. The ability to dream big dreams
  6. A family that believes in me
  7. Food and coffee (duh)
  8. Having patience
  9. The ability to vote
  10. Living in a country where women are being more valued every day
  11. Snow, Hallmark, and Christmas music

OK, now I must go pack up Harry’s room as we get ready to head to my parents for a few days. I wish you safe, yummy, loving Thanksgiving. Stay cool ya Turkeys!

La La Lavender

I’m currently having a breakfast appetizer of banana bread as I wait for my steel cut oats to cook. This is my first time making steel oats and I didn’t realize they take 20 minutes to make! I’m used to my 90 second oatmeal but was in the mood for something a little heartier. I will probably top my oats with some milk and brown sugar…maybe a little coconut yogurt and a chocolate chip? LOL who am I kidding more like¬† 5 chocolate chips.

I also went to Target yesterday to get more Almondmilk Creamer (have been obsessed with the Toffee Tidings flavor) and got distracted by the all the holiday flavors. I left with Sugar Cookie instead of the Toffee Tidings. Marketers sure know how to get me. Argh!

So it’s been cold. Freezing cold. It’s OK because I usually spend my day snuggled in a chair with Harry and Ruthie so we stay warm but we’re starting to go a little stir crazy staying inside all day. So yesterday Harry and I ventured out to do some errands and pick up ingredients for a¬†lavender latte!¬†I love lavender lattes and seeing the one in Duluth over the weekend made me want to make my own.

First things first. I had no clue where to get lavender buds…wtf is a lavender bud even? Target or Trader Joes do not have them. My next thought was whole foods but I didn’t feel like driving into the city. After fearing defeat, we drove past a little store called Fresh and Natural on our way home. Sure, what the heck. Might as well try, right?

BINGO. Fresh and Natural def has lavender buds. And many other fun/odd/cool things. The nice thing was that the buds were in the bulk section so you could take as many as you wanted. I love the smell of lavender and filled my little baggie up…the price per pound….$53! Thank god lavender weighs like nothing. I think my total for the lav was $3. I’ll be getting more of this stuff.

I also grabbed some decaf coffee (also in the bulk section) to make my latte because I’m trying to only drink one fully caff coffee a day (my morning cup with said Sugar cookie cream). Before leaving I tried looking for collagen because I am curious about the stuff and wanted a sample jar but only saw a large tub for like $40. Don’t need my hair and nails to grow that bad. Anyone have thoughts on collagen?

Lavender ‚̧

Back to latte. I started by making the lav syrup in the recipe. I boiled the water and buds and let it simmer. It smelled amazing. I’m adding a small strainer to my XMAS list because all we have is a giant spaghetti noodle strainer and a handful of the buds made it into my drink which was fine but not ideal.

Next step was to boil water and sugar then add the boiled lav juice to the sugar water. Pretty sure I may have burned my sugar a tiny bit but it was still yummy.

Then you basically let the syrup cool, brew some coffee (I used my French Press), and pour that into a mug. Now for the coolest part…the milk. All you do is heat up your milk (I used Fair Life Non fat because I like this kind the best and almond milk has not been my fave lately) for like 30 seconds then give it a good ole shake. Bing. Bang. Boom. Pour that on top and you have a lovely lavender latte.

I Love Lav

I really want to learn how to make a flower or something with my foamy milk but I’m guessing I need a fancy espresso machine for that. Anyway, I’d highly suggest this recipe! It will hopefully save me $100 in fancy lavender lattes hehe. Then I can put that $ towards a nespresso. I found one on sale at Sur La Table and am hoping Santa brings it…or maybe I’ll get it for Harry LOL.

So the website that has the lavender latte also has a recipe for PB cup coffee creamer. I might try to make that today. Oh and pumpkin bread because you can never have enough pumpkin.

PS what do I use extra lavender buds for?

Give Yourself Credit

Hello. Here¬†we are again, Friday. Sweet because then Sam gets to be home all¬†weekend but also not sweet because time is going¬†way too fast and I’m already getting anxious about going back to¬†work. Just live in the moment right? But that’s freaking hard. Since Harry came a¬†week early, I get to go back to¬†work on Christmas Eve day (I should be thrilled to have a job to go back to) and I’m already crying thinking about leaving my son the day before Christmas. Any helpful tips on how to transition¬†would be greatly appreciated ūüôā

So, yesterday Harry and I¬†went to Gramma Dee and Grandpa Fletch’s house for a little visit. Since¬†we still don’t have laundry, I brought along a couple loads and my mom (she’s a literal angel) prepped us a couple meals. Hello instant pot pot roast, chicken pot pie, and these bars!. Our little fam is so lucky to have you mom!

Anyway,¬†while at their house, I got super anxious about little Harry not eating enough. He has some super great feedings¬†where I’m like, “man,¬†we got this down.” And then he has a bunch of shitty feedings¬†where I’m like “I suck, he’s going to lose¬†weight and have to go to the hospital. I’m going to just start feeding him formula.” It seriously stresses me out every single day. I try to remain calm and tell myself he is eating enough since he’s pooping and peeing and he’s not asking for more. But how can I be sure? I just¬†want to¬†weigh him every day to make sure he’s going in the right direction.

To try to relieve some stress, I took myself to the State Park for a nice run/walk (FYI I am incredibly sore today…the hills really got me). The Park is my favorite place to go¬†when I need to chill the eff out because it is beautiful there and during the¬†week it’s pretty much empty. Just me and nature. Let me tell you, for the first half of my run-hike, I could not relax. I kept thinking…what if Harry is hungry (Haley, you left a bottle),¬†what if Harry is crying (Haley, he’s a baby, he’ll probably cry)…Haley, you left your 1 month son, you are a crappy mom (Haley, you are not a crappy mom, you can take an hour for yourself…Haley no you can’t). Yes, these are the exact thoughts that consumed my mind for the first 4 miles.

I even¬†worked myself into a nice headache due to this stress. Then¬†with about 2 miles left, I finally chilled the eff out. IDK¬†what it¬†was but something just changed and I felt calm. I knew Harry¬†was in good hands. He had everything he needed and he’d be alright for an hour.

I just don’t know¬†why I let myself get so stressed. It doesn’t make anything better at all. I feel like one minute I’m so confident in everything, and the next minute I’m in a panic, questioning everything. Ask Sam, he’ll tell you. One day I’m like “OMG Harry slept all day, he is growing!” The next day I’m like “OMG¬†why is Harry sleeping all day? He must be ill?” Or “Harry’s belly is growing, yay!” “Harry’s belly is full of gas, get it out!”

However, I feel like Harry can sense my stress and that stresses him out (I know Ruthie can sure sense my stress) so I need to keep reminding myself to settle down. Plus, I hate being stressed…I’m mean, I stinky sweat, I get headaches. STOP BEING A STRESSED LADY, LADY.

So, how does one not stress¬†with a baby? Take a stress relief bath? Drink a glass of¬†wine? Talk to my support system? Go for a¬†walk (LOL see above)?¬† Sure, these things might help temporarily but I don’t think it’s possible to not be stressed. But I’m going to try my best to remind myself that¬†we’re doing the best¬†we can.

This is all new territory and¬†we¬†will figure it out one hour, one day at a time. As long as Harry is fed, changed,¬†warm, and snuggled, he is OK. Being a mom is the most rewarding yet hardest thing I’ve ever experienced but us moms need to give ourselves some credit. Bringing a human into this¬†world is INSANE. This little being that¬†was growing inside is now on the outside and¬†we have so much to figure out together.

Here’s to all the mom’s out there. You are amazing. You’re doing the best job. Keep your head up because it’s not easy but it’s def¬†worth it.

Sunday’s are for Chores and Shopping

Good morning! I’ve been up since 5:30 am feeding a hungry baby and now I’m¬†wide awake and ready for a Sunday funday!

I’m also very excited because I just ordered¬†these shoes¬†and can’t wait to try them on. I don’t know about you but I’m very into online shopping…except¬†when you have to make returns. I hate that.

Yesterday¬†was a busy day in the¬†wakefield household. You see, having a new baby means lots of laundry because lots of poop and pee and spit up. So, it¬†was a very convenient time for our¬†washer to break…NOT. Sam thinks it’s my fault because I shoved a huge comforter and pillow in there but I think it’s time¬†was just up. So¬†we took Harry to Home Depot yesterday and let him pick out the new¬†washer. He did a good job and didn’t even pick the most expensive one…win! He also picked a dryer so¬†we got that too…you know you’re grown up¬†when you get excited about a new appliance.

Yesterday morning I also attended my first Alchemy class in¬†what feels like a year (I think it’s been like 3 months?). It¬†was hard and I realized my core is SO¬†weak after having Harry (Had to do planks from my knees!). I took it easy, used lighter¬†weights, and modified movements I¬†wasn’t comfortable¬†with. It¬†was really nice to get in a group setting and get in a good sweat. But holy cow am I sore today…a good sore though.

This morning it is freaking freezing out so I decided to skip my Costco Pumpkin muffin and make a large bowl of oatmeal instead. I was feeling nice and spicy so I zipped that bowl up with some lovely flavors. It looked a little something like this:

1/2 cup of oats

Large sprinkle of tumeric

Large sprinkle of cinnamon (Vietnamese from Penzy’s…only cinnamon you should ever buy)

*I never measure my spices, I just dump them in*

Handful of crasins

I topped this with some homemade pumpkin butter and local real honey. YUM. I always forget how much I love oats until I eat them. Nice and warm, perfect for a chilly fall day.

Speaking of chili, I love chili so much but am trying not to eat it on account of beans and breastfeeding. So today I’m hoping to prep my other fave fall soup from¬†PaleOMG. This soup is so easy to make and I buy the already chopped butternut squash. HIGHLY recommend. I’m also planning on making something in the slow cooker because I haven’t used that once this fall, some chocolate chip cookies, and overnight golden milk oats because now I’m on the oat train. Oh, and maybe some¬†fun fetti donuts!

Sunday’s are normally for Football but not today. Since our¬†washer isn’t going to arrive until Nov 6th, I’m using my parents¬†washer to do laundry a couple times a¬†week (I feel like a college student). So today¬†we¬†will be making the trek to Hudson for laundry, some Harry introductions to friends, and *hopefully* a nice¬†walk at the State Park. Yahoo! Sounds like a fun filled Sunday if you ask me!

Now I gotta go #2 because I had coffee and oats and that’s a deadly combo…TMI but¬†who cares I’m sure you’re about to poo too (pretty sure Harry’s pooping right now too).

Thursday Things

Man, it’s been a busy¬†week. I thought time¬†would slow down being on maternity leave but nope! It just seems to go faster!

Harry turned 2¬†weeks old on Monday and I feel like he’s letting me get a little more sleep each night. Thank you buddy, I appreciate that. I still am feeling a little stressed about the¬†whole breastfeeding thing and might visit the baby cafe either this afternoon or next¬†week. I just¬†want to make sure he’s getting enough nourishment! He has his 2¬†week check up tomorrow so I’m excited to see if he’s growing/where his¬†weight is.

So, lets chat fun things. The¬†weather here is shit. It’s been raining for the past 5 days and now today the high is a measly 39 degrees. I NEED SOME SUN. So, to battle the gloomy blues, I’ve been super into baking. Last¬†week I made pumpkin donuts, this¬†week it¬†was apple donuts. I just searched online for a recipe but I¬†want to start experimenting and making my own recipes!

The apple donuts¬†were baked and then dusted¬†with cinnamon and sugar and seemed a little dense but I still think they tasted amazing. Served¬†with a side of scramble eggs and avocado…yum! I ate 10 of them in 3 days…LOL. Oops.

Apple do-nuts or don’t-nuts

I also tried my hand at a pumpkin spice latte because¬†we all know the ones from Starbucks and Caribou have like a million grams of sugar. If I’m gonna eat a million grams of sugar I’d rather have a couple donuts (or 10) ya know. So I took some milk and pumpkin and cooked that in a pan for about 5 minutes. Then I removed that from the heat and added a little maple syrup (thanks Uncle Danny), vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, and brewed coffee. I’d say it’s pretty fantastic. And I feel a lot better drinking this knowing there’s not a ton of unnatural crap in it.

Baby Spice? Nah, Pumpkin Spice

Now, today is my 29th Birthday. It’s crazy how as you get older (and have kids and dogs) birthday’s get a tiny bit less exciting. I mean obviously it’s fun to know 29 years ago my mom¬†was going through¬†what I¬†went through 2¬†weeks ago (sorry mom-I now know the pain you¬†went through!). But as I age, I just care less about getting presents and more about spending quality time¬†with the people that mean the most in my life. I’d much rather get coffee and chat than anything in the¬†world. I’d much rather take my dog to the state park for a hike on a fall day. I’d rather receive a hug from my mom and dad than a cake. You get it.

Of course a Birthday brings about a¬†whole new year. 365 days to grow, change, adventure, set goals, accomplish goals. If you think about it, 365 days seems like a long time but it’s really not. It sure flies by. So here’s a list of things I’m hoping to see/do in my 29th year.

-Teach my son to be a caring, loving human

– Travel to Banff/Lake Louise

-Try one new thing each month (new recipe, workout class, book)

-Sign up for a new race (hello Lutsen 50K??)

-Donate to puppy shelter

-Send more cards

-Adventure with Sam

-Make wine! Go on a wine tour

-Re-decorate/paint my house/fix it up/plan and save for new house (more like 5 year plan hehe)

-Blog consistently because writing is my true passion

-Relax. Stop being so hard on self.

-More homemade recipes…stop spending $5 on coffee!!!!! SAVE $$$

-Clean out closet-get rid of anything haven’t¬†worn in past year

-Learn to live in the moment and stop wishing for next week/month/year

It’s just a start but having these things¬†written down helps me see¬†what I hope to accomplish and stay on track.

Week 38!

Here I sit,¬†waiting for the rest of my fam to¬†wake up. I have been up since about 4:10 due to excitement of the most perfect¬†weather and first day of fall. If you don’t know, I LOVE fall (just like any other human…I just love it a little more).

I have been fighting a cold since last Saturday and finally feel like 80 % today so I¬†went to the gym and did a nice and slow¬†workout. Then I treated myself¬†with a decaf mocha from Caribou because¬†why not! It’s been a blast of a day already.

Here¬†we are people…week 38. I technically have a¬†week and 3 days til I’m due but my gut tells me I’m gonna be in labor this time next¬†week so I’m going¬†with one tiny¬†week left of this pregnancy. You know¬†what? I don’t mind being pregnant. The only thing that annoys me is how many people stare at my belly….like yahhhh I know it’s got a large bump growing on it. Thanks.

First, lets do a recap of our last baby shower last¬†weekend. My sister and mom hosted at my parents house and¬†when I arrived the house¬†was decorated so cutely (is that even a¬†word). All the blue decorations¬†with those cute southwest arrows…my sister even made a selfie¬†wall. How clever.

There¬†was a taco bar and margaritas (I had a virgin one…yum!) and cornbread shaped like cactus. My mom made the most fantastic cupcakes.

We played 3 games:

  1. The baby sock matching game-match as many baby socks as you can in a minute.
  2. Baby¬†word scramble…abby=baby
  3. Baby song game…guess the title and artist of the song¬†with the¬†word “baby.” Think Mariah Carey-Always Be My Baby

It was a blast of an afternoon and I am so thankful for all the friends and family that have helped Sam and I prepare for the little guy.

So this¬†week has been V low key. I got a cold Saturday and haven’t been able to breathe right since…also like so much snot in my nose/throat. I have been snoring like a cow according to Sam so I haven’t been sleeping that great. But that’s OK, I really don’t like sleeping all that much…JK!

This¬†week I’ve had a bit more of an appetite¬†which makes me so happy. I made homemade chicken soup on Monday (I stayed home from¬†work to rest) and have been eating that all¬†week. The best. I’ve also been craving salad¬†with Catalina dressing, pizza, hamburgers (again!), lasagna, mac n cheese, and cottage cheese. LOL. My goal for today is to make Grandpa Marion’s chili and maybe some cornbread, an apple crisp, and tuna salad.

I still¬†weigh 153ish and my body still feels pretty good. I’m trying to remain calm and just let things happen and not stress out…because stress makes everything¬†worse. This baby¬†will come¬†when he is ready!

At my Dr. Appt yesterday they said my cervix (sorry if you’re a man reading this) is about 50% thin, I am about 1/2 a cm dialated, and the doc touched the baby’s head!!!!! I thought that¬†was so crazy and cool I told her that…I mean c’mon! There’s a HUMAN IN MY BODY. I still don’t understand how that’s possible.

As for¬†workouts this¬†week…I think I did 4? I did get at least 10k steps every day and¬†we did a lovely 6 mile hike on Sunday. I’d rather be spending my time in nature or snuggling my dog and Sam right now.

Today I am getting a massage thanks to my lovely friends and cannot freaking¬†wait. Hopefully I don’t get so relaxed that the baby just slips out…that’d be shocking hehe. The rest of the day I hope to finish cleaning (yeah, I bought Mrs Myers pumpkin cleaning spray and¬†want to spray every surface of my house¬†with it), cooking, and chilling in the nursery…NESTING. Except I don’t live in a nest.

My dad and I are going to the Apple Orchard tomorrow and I CAN’T¬†wait!!!! They have the best apple donuts and I’m for sure going to eat 2.

Week 37

Officially 2 little weeks and 4 short days until this baby’s due date. I am getting so so excited and trying to remain calm/not stressed. This weekend I have my final baby shower and cannot wait. It’s also hotter/humid-er than hell right now and my feet have finally started to swell. Swell.

I just had my Dr. Appointment and they said the baby’s heart beat is at 130 and perfecto. They also said he’s probs around 6 pounds…a good size. Nothing got shoved in my bumhole this time so that was cool. Bumhole or rectum or anus? I’m not sure what you call it and Sam won’t tell me because he says I should know.

My belly feels bigger this week and I seem to be slowing down a bit. I’ve also felt some contractions (I think??) which is cray cray. Everything gets realllll tight but it doesn’t hurt yet. I weighed 154 this week and just want to snuggle Ruth, arrange the baby room, and carpet clean.

There’s a human in there!

Now, lets take a brief moment to talk about last weekends diaper shower. Sam’s school held a gathering for us at a local restaurant and it was fantastic. There was good food, lots of chatting, and SO MANY DIAPERS. I was shocked. The baby’s closet is literally overflowing with diapers and wipes and I could cry thinking about it. People are too kind and we are so grateful for so many wonderful people.

Now, this week I’ve been having some weird dreams. I dreamt that I was walking Ruthie by this big lake and we came to a cliff and the lake was full of golden retrievers. All of a sudden Ruthie got loose and took off and I thought she drowned in the lake. She ended up turning up a week later from the woods and I couldn’t stop crying. I’ve also only wanted to snuggle Ruthie lately and pet her. Odd? IDK.

I also had a vision after a midnight pee run that I would start to write a book on my maternity leave…perhaps.

Cravings have kind of been back this week. Salads, cottage cheese, malts, and donuts. OH AND PIZZA. All I want right now is pizza. I just got a margarita pizza from Punch with a Greco Salad. I ate half of it and am trying to pace myself. I’m guessing that pizza will be gone before I go to bed tonight…just saying. Sam’s out of town this week so he can’t judge me.

My morning appetite is still absent so I’ve been trying to have an apple and string cheese at least to get something in my belly. I love cheese. I also had donuts twice this week…sue me.

Sam said I was starting to get feisty this week and hissed at me like a cat…all because I didn’t want to move over when he came to join me on the front step. Sounds like his problem ūüôā

Oh, I almost forgot to mention the fun things I found at the Munchkin Market last Friday. I was shocked at how not busy it was when I arrived. I took my time and found some really great things. In total I spent $29 and got a snowsuit (that I saw on Poshmark for $50), a MN wild sleeper, a onesie, a cute little pant/sweatshirt set, and some blocks/cars. Sam and I washed everything and are ready to go.

Lets see, what else has been happening this week…I know what hasn’t…workouts at the gym LOL. I did one on Tuesday and was so over it. I did a 20 min run Wednesday morning and was also over that. So the rest of the week I’ve been taking it easy and did a couple at home workouts. I might hit the gym tomorrow and try something but I might also not. I’ve really loved walking the dog in the morning before work and she’s finally getting used to walking in the dark. It’s our special time together.

That’s about all that’s happened this week. I’m hoping to make some soups and stuff that we can keep in the freezer so when this little guy arrives we won’t have to worry about cooking. Now I’m off to clean the basement carpet because it’s NASTY.

The 36th Week

Hello!

I just had my 36¬†week Dr. Appointment and it¬†went¬†well…except for the part¬†where I got tested for some bacteria thing and they shoved a stick in my bumhole. Yeah. I¬†wouldn’t recommend that.

The baby is measuring the right size, heart beat is good, and things seem to be right on track. I¬†weighed in around 153¬†which means I’ve gained about 23 pounds in the past 9 months. I’m 100% OK¬†with that. After today I have Dr. Appointments every Friday until the due date so can’t¬†wait to see¬†what happens next¬†week.

Now, lets back up to last¬†weekend real fast. Sam and I¬†went to the MN State Fair¬†with his fam and it¬†was a blast! It didn’t even feel that crowded to me. And I survived 5¬†whole hours there¬†without having a breakdown. So cool.

I drank many waters, got the best chocolate malt from the dairy barn, ate some french fries,¬†walleye fingers, fried pickles, and had a bite of Sam’s pronto pup. All the things¬†were extraordinary. Other things¬†we saw at the fair…goats, cows, and people dodging horse shit. Can’t¬†wait for next year.

Dairy Queen 

Alright, now back to this¬†week. Things still seem pretty good as far as my feelings go. I haven’t had any crazy dreams, I haven’t spazzed at Sam once, I’m still pooping, no hems, and I can sleep through most of the night. Things that aren’t so great…this baby is pushing on my pelvis and it feels like it’s about to split in 2, my feet are getting a little swollen, and I have zero appetite in the morning (I asked the doc and she said that’s normal since my stomach is basically smooshed into my chest). I JUST¬†want to be hungry!

I’m carrying a puppy!

Cravings have been zero this¬†week. Nothing really sounds good except maybe a donut? I can’t tell. Oh, and chocolate milk and root beer. Other than that…food is just meh.

I’m still managing to get a few good¬†workouts in here and there although I’m thinking I’m going to be doing all at home¬†workouts pretty soon because¬†waking up at 4:30 am is really no fun anymore. I have been trying to take Ruthie for a¬†walk before¬†work now that I don’t start until 7:30 so that’s been a treat. I’ve also been doing a few treadmill “sprint”¬†workouts and did a 2ish mile run on Tuesday. I don’t even care that I’m not running like I used to right now. There¬†will be plenty of time to get back into it.

This¬†week I had my second baby shower¬†with my mom’s side of the family and it¬†was an absolute blast. My mom and I drove over to my Grandma’s house on¬†wednesday and met my 3 aunts for lunch. The food¬†was delicious and I had a really tasty Root Beer. Then¬†we headed back to Grandma’s house for the most delicious cheesecake from a European Bakery my Aunt Linda brought. SO good. There¬†was a chocolate and a cherry and they¬†were equally amazing.

After the cakes¬†were eaten,¬†we played some super fun games thanks to Aunt Polly. There¬†was the frozen babies in ice cubes game and¬†whoever’s melted first¬†was supposed to shout “my¬†water broke!” Grandma Lois¬†won that one ūüôā

Baby Boy!

There¬†was also the Nursery Rhyme game¬†where you had to fill in the blank about nursery rhymes. I def need to brush up on my rhymes.¬†We also played the candy bar game¬†where you have to match the type of candy to the phrase….like Postpartum tummy=jelly belly. I loved this game because I love candy. The final game¬†was pin the sperm on the egg (we’re all adults here,¬†we can handle it). So creative, so fun.

After the games, it was time to head back home. Man, I have the greatest family and Baby wakey is so lucky.

This week I also got to have dinner with my 3 best gal pals and it was just the best. We met a place called The Sonder Shaker in Minneapolis and it was fantastic. The waitress gave some good recommendations and they even made a mock-garita. YUM. I sure miss margs.

All 4 of us split the deconstructed elotes and chips and guac and there¬†was not a crumb left. Baby¬†wakey gets hungry around 6 PM it seems. For the main course I¬†went¬†with the burger because it’s been a¬†while and this burg did NOT disappoint. It had enough cheese, tasty pickles, and the best sweet potato fries. I’d eat that again.

The gals gave me a prenatal massage giftcard (which was the most thoughtful gift ever!) and I cannot wait to use it next week. THANK YOU!!!

Now tonight, I am going to check out this thing called the Munchkin Market. It takes place at the fair grounds in Stillwater, MN and I hear it’s insane. If you’re a new or expecting mom you get in early on Friday so I’m really hoping to find some sweet stuff. Sam and I are also going to buy our travel system this¬†weekend. I’ll update you on that next¬†week.

WEEK 35

Goooooood Morning! I think I’ve been up on and off since like 1:30 am. Just couldn’t sleep ya know. Looks like today might be a good day for a little nap.

Another¬†week of being preggo has come and gone and I’m still feeling pretty good…for the most part. I am starting to slow down a bit and feel more tired. My back has been real sore (I asked Sam for a massage but haven’t received that yet) and my pelvis feels like it’s splitting apart…maybe it is? I guess in 4ish¬†weeks I’ll be pushing a tiny human through there so it’s probably getting ready for that. Fun!

35 week bump

Last Saturday¬†we attended our birthing class and it rocked. I seriously loved it and learned so much. Highly recommend a birthing class for any pregnant mom out there. I mean I feel like I knew a few things but I def didn’t know 1) you can go in the bathtub at the hospital¬†while you’re¬†waiting to push the baby out. 2) You can bring snacks! 3) I’m probably going to make some¬†weird noises and that freaks me out but I’ll probably so in the moment I¬†won’t care. 4) Sam might not make it through¬†watching the actual birth (LOL he got so squeamish during the video clips of birth).

They also fed us Olive Garden¬†which tasted amazing. Sam said¬†we’ll probs only need to take that class once but I loved it so much I’d do it again.

Moving on. I think my belly has grown a lot more. My shirts are like belly shirts now but I don’t¬†want to buy any more new clothes since I have 4¬†weeks to go. I did buy some postpartum leggings I’m very excited about….oh and some super cute postpartum undies that go all the¬†way up to my belly button. Birth control? Probably.

This¬†week I¬†weighed in around 150. My appetite in the morning is literally gone except for chocolate milk and fruit. I’ve been having an apple and then eating a Clif bar around 11 and that’s all I can manage¬†which sucks. However, my appetite seems to¬†wake up around 2 pm and all I¬†want is malts, brownies, cake, and pizza. COOOOOL.

My amazing mom came last weekend and brought her instant pot and made us some delicious Barbacoa shredded beef. It was better than Chipotle and I ate it every night for dinner. She also made this loaded mac n cheese with mushrooms and roasted red peppers. HOLY MOLY. Sam and I ate like royalty last week. Also, I need an instant pot. Now.

Homemade Chipotle

This¬†week I started getting ready to pack my hospital bag (just in case!) and ordered some fun things (thanks cousin Amber!) for after having baby boy. My cousin has been a gem and gave me a ton of good suggestions on things to have on hand like¬†witch hazel pads, gripe¬†water for baby gas, pee training pads for the bed (in case of leakage), epsom salts, and feminine¬†wipes. Yay! I’m still unsure¬†what outfits to pack for baby boy but I know they say to pack a newborn outfit and a 0-3 month outfit in case the kid is hugeeeeee.

As far as¬†workouts go this¬†week, I’m still trying to get to the gym a few times a¬†week and do some at home¬†workouts. I got in a 2 mile run and some interval running/walking on the tread at the gym. However, running right now makes me have to take the biggest poops and it gets real uncomfortable so I’m only doing a little bit.

I’ve been real into strict presses, lunges, and thrusters. A fun at home¬†workout I came up¬†with early this¬†week looked something like this:

15 minute AMRAP

50 Backward stepping lunges

40 Bent Over Rows

30 Push Press

20 Single Leg Deadlifts (10 per leg)

*Finish with as many Strict Press as possible*

SO fun! I make sure to take plenty of breaks for¬†water and don’t let my heart rate get highter than 130/140.

Really hoping these workouts help with the birthing process.

Lastly, I stopped at the farmers market Thursday and bought the most beautiful flowers. I used to hate flowers but now I love them. They make me so happy. I also got some fresh green beans since nothing in my garden is ready to harvest yet.

Flower Power

Okay, that’s all for this¬†week. Really excited for a nice long¬†weekend. Sam and I have a lot of housework to do but¬†we might toss that aside and hit up the MN State Fair. I need some mini donuts and cheese curds.

Week 34

5 weeks 4 days til baby boy is due and we still can’t decide on a name. That’s OK though, we will figure it out after he’s pushed out and in our arms ūüôā

The 34th week is coming to a close and I am still feeling pretty good. Sleeping isn’t that big of a problem (everything I’ve read says you won’t be able to sleep…LIES!), except for those damn calggf cramps! Ruthie has been just the biggest snuggle bug lately so I don’t even need blankets because she’s just a little heat box.

My belly seems to still be growing and I def can’t see my feet let alone clip my toenails or shave my legs. Sam won’t do it for me so I guess I’m going to have really long toenails and leg hairs…cute. My finger nails are like talons (thanks prenatal vitamins) so that’s pretty fun. I’m not sure how much I weigh because I don’t own a scale but I feel like it’s somewhere around 153.

Big Green Bump

I really have not had any cravings. I actually haven’t been super hungry lately which is annoying. I guess salads and peaches sound good all the time and chocolate shakes. Okay, so maybe I do have some cravings still. Oh and ice cold water. Can’t get enough of that stuff.

As far as working out goes, it’s def getting harder. I’m getting out of breath faster and I feel like my energy is zapped right away. I made it to the gym 3 times this weeks and did an at home workout. I also did a 3 mile run but I’m over running right now so I think i’ll stick to walking. I can run in like 2 months so whatevs.

I did start a new jobbhhbgh Monday so I’ve been sleeping in til 4:45 or 5 instead of 4:15 and it’s kind of nice. Gives me time to walk the dog before catching the bus which is very relaxing in the early morning hours.

Now, last weekend I had my first family baby shower. It was so great. My aunts on my dad’s side hosted in Wisconsin and I had a blast. There were super fun games (baby bingo, the Price is Right, and Animal Gestational Cycle matching), great food complete with a lion veggie platter, and the most adorable MN Wild cake ever. It was a fantastic afternoon with family and I felt so special and loved ūüôā

Not much else is new with us. I think we might be nesting? At least I am. All I want to do is clean everything, cook some meals, and wash the baby clothes and blankets/organize. Yeah, that sounds like nesting. Oh, and get in some last month snuggles with Ruthie. She’s just a little angel.

Today is going to be a busy day as we have our baby class! Yay, I’m so excited to learn some things and relieve some of the stress I’m currently feeling. I feel like I know nothing! So that should be fun/exciting.

Other than that, hoping to get some baby laundry detergent today, a rotisserie chicken, and an iced Americano and clean the shit out of the house.
